ARE YOU ACCOUNTABLE ?
CO-WINTER 2010
Over the last year of mentoring and coaching, we have had great successes. As a matter of fact in our last group, the average increase in sales was well over 600%! Yet, what is most telling is that the people who were willing to be "accountable" overwhelmingly made the most money. What do I mean by accountable? In this case, it's simply keeping track of your activities, comparing the numbers of calls, practice sessions, presentations, marketing pieces sent, etc. with the weeks prior.
Accountability is also about making and keeping agreements that you made to the group, to the mentor and to yourself. Agreements like showing up for the calls, submitting weekly results, completing assignments.
So what's the big deal, you say? The big deal is that most people refuse, ignore or find ways to avoid being accountable. Why? Because everyone hates to fail. And if you don't hold yourself accountable, or if you don't hold up the mirror to see how you are doing, you never have to look at your failures.
Lots of people pride themselves in being accountable, but when push comes to shove, they are only as accountable as it is convenient and easy for them to be. As long as it does not force them to stretch beyond their normal comfort zones. What makes others more successful is that they hold extremely high standards for themselves and those around them.
You have to be accountable if you want to be rich! If you are not accountable to yourself, can you really be accountable to your customers? Before you answer so quickly, answer this. Are you willing to stand behind the results of your product or service 200%? Are you willing to offer a no-questions asked guarantee? Or is the little voice in your head saying, "That's not practical in my business." "I would get ripped off." "No one does that in my industry." If that's true, you're not 100% accountable!
In business, those who are willing to guarantee results, stand by their actions, over-fulfill their agreements, win big. Because it is so rare that anyone is willing to do this, you will quickly stand out as a leader and the go-to person in your arena. Most others have hired a battery of attorneys to protect themselves rather than protecting their customers. They have the audacity to demand more accountability from would-be customers than themselves. And they wonder why business is "tough". If you want market share and an influx of income...be bold!
It starts with being accountable to yourself.
Sure, you set goals, but do you hold yourself accountable for all the activities that are required to make those goals reality? Do you even set standards? This is true for your health, your sales activities, your relationships and your wealth. You will not have the ability to be really accountable to others if you don't have the physical, mental and emotional strength that comes from being accountable to you.
Look! You don't have to be perfect to be accountable! That's a myth! We all blow it. We all fall off the wagon once in a while. Yet, you can still hold yourself to scrutiny by keeping track of your statistics, comparing them and admitting to your mistakes along the way. Accountability is simply looking at what is real in your life, acknowledging it and making a commitment to doing something about it.
As you embark on this New Year, make a commitment to at least be accountable to you for the things that will give you the wealth, health and love that you want. Goals are great, but unless you are willing to track your progress, be accountable for your successes AND failures, the goals will be illusions. Ask yourself what you are willing to do for the goals. How much are your willing to serve? What are you willing to guarantee to your prospects, your colleagues, your family and yourself?
Be different. Be bold. Be the awesome person you think you can be. Create a Code of Honor for yourself, your team, your family and for your business. It is the ultimate accountability tool which hold all who embrace it at standards that guarantee results.
I guarantee you that if you are willing to be accountable...not to be perfect...not to never make mistakes, but if you are willing to face the music and correct, you will not only be wealthy in all areas of your life, but you will be a model to others to have the lives they want to have as well.
