The health market is the fastest growing sector in the world. Canada’s Ministry of Health, along with many regional and local organizations across the country, is working diligently to provide programs to promote healthy, active lifestyles.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, “physical activity plays an important role in the health, well-being and quality of life of Canadians. People who are physically active live longer, healthier lives. Active people are more productive, and more likely to avoid illness and injury.”

Harvard researchers published a compilation of 33 separate studies on the benefit of exercise in their August 2011 journal. They found that getting 150 minutes of exercise per week cut heart disease risk by 14%; 300 minutes a week decreased heart disease risk by 20%; and 750 minutes cut the risk by 25%. Healthy, active living is the recommended prescription for longevity.

WHAT IS HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING?

Healthy living means making choices to improve your health to minimize controllable illnesses and diseases. Active living is doing physical activity in order to improve your fitness level. The two go together. Choosing a healthy, active lifestyle will enhance all aspects of what we generally call “health” or “wellness.”

There are three parts to living a healthy lifestyle; physical activity, healthy nutrition and mental balance. For the physical health part, statistics show that it should be an activity that can be done by everyone. It should be an activity that needs no special skills; an activity that isn’t exhausting, and can keep millions of men and women around the world in good shape.

What is this exercise that shows the highest health benefits, although it is a low - impact exercise ?

It’s a scientifically and clinically proven exercise and it is recognized by the healthcare market in Canada and around the world. It’s called Nordic Pole Walking.

Since 2003 German health insurance companies have subsidized costs for Nordic Pole Walking courses up to 80-100% based on Government regulations (SGBV, 20&43).

We asked Dr. Schwanbeck a series of questions and decided it would be in the best interests of the reader to use a Q and A format. Below are some of the most relevant questions on the exercise and the opportunities to join this very energetic and effective team.

• QUESTION : Why do people introduced to Nordic Pole Walking have such an instant commitment?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : It’s a function of incorporating all body muscles and cardio at the same time; this leads to tremendous health benefits. It is an easy to understand program where participants immediately feel the effect and commit to using the poles. Our trainers set up pole walking clubs that make it a healthy and social experience.

• QUESTION Why do you think the program is so successful in Canada?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : There are several reasons why theprogram is taking off in Canada; first, we are outdoor lovers. Secondly, the Canadian Health Ministry and provincial and local health organizations are focusing on health prevention and maintaining health. This focus is due to the increasing cost of our health care system. What Nordic pole walking offers is an effective, physical activity that everyone can do, with a low financial investment. It doesn’t require any specific fitness skills and there is no need for a membership in a gym. Nordic Pole Walking has it all.

• QUESTION : What makes Nordixx the pole walking program of choice?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : Nordixx Pole Walking Canada Inc. provides special programs that reach out to millions of Canadians. The company has formed alliances with major health organizations like the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Ottawa Cancer Foundation, and CARP, Canadian Association of Retired Persons. We are helping raise awareness and funds for many of these organizations.

• QUESTION : Who uses the poles?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : Everyone. We have boomers, fitness enthusiasts, people suffering from health disorders, schools, hospitals, community recreation programs and walking clubs. The list is endless.

• QUESTION : Is there an opportunity for people to get involved as distributors?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : Yes there definitely is an opportunity for people to get in on our business model. We want distributors who have an affiliation with the health market and are looking to make a substantial business out of Nordic pole walking. We focus on building customer relationships in each territory. During my more than 20 years as a professional in health prevention and marketing I’ve learned that an easy to understand educational program is the best selling point. In my experience, this results in a sustainable commitment for both the program and the sales. My work in Europe shows that even after 15 years, the numbers for Nordic pole walking are still increasing.

• QUESTION : Why have you structured distribution with exclusive territories?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : Our distributors can focus on building customer relationships in any given territory. They are not losing time and money fighting the competition from their own colleagues. We are a team, and we all know the rules. At Nordixx, TEAM stands for Together, Everyone Achieves More!

• QUESTION : How do you apply and get accepted as a Licensed Trainer and Distributor?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : Anyone interested in Nordic Pole Walking as a business can become a distributor and participate in a 1-day Certification Instructor program. For more information, simply send us an email request and one of our representatives will get back to you with all the relevant details. Our website is www.nordixx.com.

• QUESTION : Why is there so much cooperation with major health organizations?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : The recognition and support Nordixx has received from major health organizations, like the Diabetes Association GTA, the Cancer Foundation, the Trillium Foundation, and major hospitals including Sunnybrook Hospital, has been gratifying. We have their support because we provide the experience and the education, knowing the results will speak for themselves. Our alliance with these organizations gives Nordixx Pole Walking Canada huge credibility. There is an understanding that we are here for the long run, and not promoting any short term fitness craze.

• QUESTION : Does Nordixx have an overall marketing strategy?

- DR. SCHWANBECK : Nordixx is following two market approaches :

TOP DOWN :
Based on my professional experience in Germany, Nordixx Pole Walking Canada is working to have our program sanctioned by Government and we want to get Nordic pole walking included in the policies of health insurance companies in Canada. When German health insurance companies started to subsidize NPW, millions of Germans started using the poles. We saw the poles appearing in gyms, health clubs, physiotherapists, personal trainers, hotels and vacation agencies. The support launched NPW everywhere. We see this happening in Canada, even without any official subsidization.

BOTTOM-UP :
Nordixx certifies Instructors and Master Instructors. They go to local organizations, retirement homes, health clubs and neighborhoods and provide NPW introduction training. They offer ongoing classes and they sell the Nordixx poles. Our Instructors are our sales force; they buy the equipment from the local distributor. The Distributor sells the poles. It is our goal to have a Nordic Pole Walking group in every Canadian neighborhood. The program and poles are easy to sell. At our public education events out of 100 participants, on average 60-70 people buy poles instantly. This is without promoting the poles, just educating consumers on the health benefits of NPW.

Nordixx Fundraising – increase Win-Win for all Partners : New : “Donation for Health Education”

Nationwide fundraising projects can be a major marketing tool to raise instant awareness for all partners, if it is done right. Nordixx has built a strong alliance with Montreal’s M-Four International Inc., a successful marketing company with more than 30 - year experience in international franchising, distribution and licensing. Nordixx’ leading edge fundraising projects draw more people and that encourages more donations, particularly for health education and training. Nordixx provides a program that creates more awareness for Cancer Research, sponsors and distributors than usual fundraising events.

A Fundraising Model to Consider :

Nordixx developed a new model for fundraising. The model was presented to the Ottawa Cancer Foundation by Lawrence Greenspon, a well known and respected Ottawa lawyer. Greenspon is deeply involved in many fundraising projects in the healthcare sector and, through his connections, he was able to attract major sponsors like Scotiabank, Telus, and Desjardins. The model for this new Cancer Foundation/Nordixx Pole Walking Canada fundraising project will be replicated across the country.
