DECEMBER 2008-JANUARY 2009 : It’s a Wonderful Time of Year !

Well, the holiday season is upon us once again; Christmas trees and lights and silver bells and whistle and ribbons and bows and… you get the idea. It is a very busy time for retailers. In fact, for many of them, this truly is − to coin a phrase − the most wonderful time of the year.
The holiday season is also quite hectic for entrepreneurs working in the Service Industry, with reason; many of us have access to all kinds of services, to get through not only the Holidays, but the joys and rigours of the cold season as well. I’m thinking of tailoring, office party catering, hair dressing, home decoration, financial advice, parcel delivery, pet care, heating oil delivery, snow removal, ski equipment repair... the list goes on.
You guessed it, the service industry – also called the territory sector − and it is one of the features of our December 2008/January 2009 number. The service industry is well represented in the franchise market and is a major driving force of the Canadian economy.
Also in this issue, our cover story on Cora’s Breakfast & Lunch. The company is currently operating in eight provinces and has plans to continue its successful expansion across Canada.
We visited Calgary during the last Franchise and Business Opportunities Show and prepared a special report on this vibrant and rapidly -expanding area that has been dubbed ”the heart of the new west“.
As always, our expert columnists have prepared insightful articles for you and we have updated our GUIDE of the best franchises and business opportunities available, in order for you to identify the business concept that best suits you.
Since this is our last publication of the year, I would like to take this opportunity on behalf everyone here at Canadian Opportunities, to wish you all a heartfelt, safe, and wonderful Holiday season. It’s a time to celebrate and be merry with loved ones and to be thankful for all that this year has brought us.
If ever 2008 didn’t quite live up to your expectations, now’s the perfect time to look to the year ahead as a fresh start and to start planning your new projects, and to start paving the way to your success with a new focus and renewed energy.
Enjoy yourselves, eat, drink (reasonably) and be merry ! - Oh, and do try to turn off your BlackBerries during Christmas dinner…
