Concierge Home Services began in 2001 to meet the need of homeowners looking for a reliable company to provide a full range of home cleaning needs. During her Human Resources career in the high-tech sector, founder Rebecca Page encountered many time-crunched executives. After hearing complaints about their experiences with various cleaning providers, she saw the opportunity to do it different, and better. By packaging up the main home cleaning tasks into one company, clients don't have to shop around to different places. And by structuring a service model very different from the team-clean approach, homeowners have an attractive alternative to traditional home cleaning companies.
There was an immediate and positive response to the concept. Her second year in operation saw a 316% increase in business. Homeowners would call Concierge Home Services because they needed housechecking while on vacation, then would start regular cleaning service. Or a call for cleaning help on moving day would scale up to include window washing and carpet cleaning.
Distinct Niche
“Our culture is to deliver consistent, quality service with integrity.” Rebecca explains. “This isn't about churn – it is getting and keeping clients as their home cleaning needs change over time.” She notes that there are three main sectors in the market, each of which provide a portion of what Concierge Home Services offers. “Our concept combines all three service lines under one brand, and our service model has distinct competitive advantages over each.”
Marketing
After several years of experience and tracking results, Concierge Home Services knows what marketing strategies works for their target clients. Rebecca says “web searches are a huge source of our growth, and as the franchisor we give search engine optimization a lot of attention.” Referrals are also critical to success, so franchisees are encouraged to develop relationships with businesses in their area such as painters, realtors, and organizers.
Franchisees build a trusting relationship with their clients, and are often asked for referrals. Of course, those businesses are often asked for a reliable cleaning or pet sitting company - “It is a classic example of networking, a full circle of referrals” laughs Rebecca. Part of franchisee training includes working with a professional business coach to develop a detailed and customized marketing plan for their territory.
Training for Success
Franchising is the ideal method of expansion for Concierge Home Services, for it allows each office to focus on delivering consistent, quality service to their area, while Head Office can develop branding. Franchisees live and work in their territory, making community connections with clients, staff, and other small businesses. The training program combines classroom learning, fieldwork, and business coaching. Franchisees are walked through the 5-step hiring process, have hands-on practice with the scheduling system, and get grounded in all the other aspects of running their business.
After a full week of training, the new franchisee is ready to return to their home office to begin building their business. With little overhead, no inventory, and no retail hours, it is the ideal set up for the self-starter who wants to manage their own time, without a boss. “For an organized people person, this is a great business they can grow from home, and still balance family responsibilities.” Rebecca notes. As a mother who had children before and after starting the company, she knows that having both a business and a home life isn’t just a dream – with Concierge Home Services, it is a reality.
