CREATING A PROFESSIONAL WEBSITE FOR YOUR BUSINESSES HAS NEVER BEEN SO EASY (AND SO FREE)

Google, the world’s largest search engine, has launched a program to get small and medium businesses online. Canada Get Your Business Online, brought to you by Google, is offering free .ca addresses to business owners who might not have seen the use of a website in the past.

In fact, Google estimates that 1.2 billion businesses in Canada do not have a website.
However, that’s all about to change as it becomes more and more clear that the internet is a powerful way to acquire new customers and maintain a more dynamic relationship with existing ones.

Google wants to help Canadian small businesses overcome the obstacles that are preventing them from getting online and fuelling Canada’s digital economy. Therefore for 12 full months, partakers in this program benefit from a website, a .ca address and ongoing support. At the end of the promotion period, users will have the opportunity to renew the web hosting service (for a fee) with Yola, a website hosting service and Google’s main partner in this program. Other partners include Rogers Communications Inc., Royal Bank of Canada, the free website builder tool, Yola Inc., the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

As consumers are headed more and more online, this offer couldn’t have come at a better time. According to Statistics Canada, more than 80 per cent of the Canadian population is online. Also, Google states that one in every five searches on Google has a local intent.

Dr. Stephanie Ling, the Principal and Administrator of Cornerstone Montessori Prep School, which re-established its website just over a year ago, says : “Our online enquiries have increased tenfold and have enabled us to build our marketing profile substantially.”

Google connects millions of people worldwide with information every day, and Canada Get Your Business Online aims to connect consumers with businesses via the Web. Truly, since its inception in March, it has been doing so. The more a company is visible online, the more chances it has to expand its clientele, which undoubtedly leads to more sales for all interested entrepreneurs. Along with free web hosting for a year, users also benefit from a $75 Google advertising coupon.

Setting up a website is easy to do. The user chooses the domain name, a template and then adds the desired information. Although the initiative is geared toward small and medium businesses, larger ones can benefit from the service as well.

“These businesses are missing out on incredible opportunities that can help themrealize significant profit growth.” - Chris O’Neill, managing director of Google Canada.

For some it’s a lack of technical skill, for others it’s the expenses that creating a professional web site usually incurs that prevent them from taking their
business online with a website. Google simplifies all of that with Canada Get Your Business Online.
